Condos Need More Storage

Posted September 22nd, 2008 by Tina Gleisner

Our Newburyport condo is small so storage will be important to tenants and the future buyer. My Handyman’s customer was clear that he wanted lots of wall shelves in the living room, office and master bedroom. He also wanted lots of storage in the basement (see separate post).

Jennifer Myers, Jennifer Myers Interiors, and Tina Gleisner, My Handyman of Southern NH, offered numerous ideas for creating more storage. Wall shelves are great to store books, showcase collectibles and support numerous decorating strategies.

The condo has an L-shaped kitchen with roughly 15 lf of cabinets. We recommended adding shelves to the kitchen pantry to double storage capacity.

Like many homes, the condo really doesn’t have a closet near the front door. Options for hanging coats nearby include using a coat rack, installing coat hooks on the wall (photo at right) or keeping coat hooks on the stairs leading to the basement.

The master bedroom encompasses the entire 3rd floor. The front has a dormer, with an opening that is 5 ft wide. We recommended a window seat to fully utilize this space, providing extra storage and seating.
