Holiday Traditions that Help Others

Everyone knows someone down on their luck this year. We’re all thinking twice about how to carry on our holiday traditions with more cost conscious buying.

Holiday Traditions that Help Others

When my children were young, one of our traditions each year (Thanksgiving and Christmas) was to do a big grocery shopping trip. While I purchased groceries for our family, each of my boys purchased groceries for another family. They had a great time filling up their carts, especially with the treats I wouldn’t bring home. They also came with me when we dropped off the groceries (toys at Christmas too) and learned at a young age that giving feels as good as getting.

One of my favorite weekly newsletters is from WhoFish.com. They provide a wonderful listing of all the events in NH so on those rare occasions when I have time to spare, I can easily find something that is fun to do. At this time of year, there are lots of fund raisers like the Festival of Wreaths at Pleasant View Retirement, Concord NH on November 12, 14 and 15th. Proceeds will benefit New Hampshire’s Food Bank, a really critical need this year.

When you’re looking for that special gift, you should also consider supporting your local business owners. Walmart may be cheaper but your small business owners live in your community and give far more to benefit where they live and work. This weekend you can drop by Shop ‘Til You Drop (see who will be there) at Bedford High School on Saturday, November 7th from 9 to 5.
